Responsibilities: 

  • Design and Implementation: PKI Engineers are involved in designing, building, and deploying PKI systems to meet specific security requirements.
  • Certificate Management: They manage the entire lifecycle of digital certificates, including issuance, renewal, revocation, and auditing.
  • Security and Compliance: They ensure PKI systems adhere to relevant security standards, data privacy frameworks, and industry best practices.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: They manage the configuration of PKI systems and conduct testing before production deployment.
  • Documentation and Best Practices: They create and maintain documentation, and contribute to defining and improving PKI best practices within their organization.
  • Integration: They may integrate PKI systems with other security tools, such as TLS inspection, IoT devices, and mobile device management (MDM) solutions.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: They troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise in the PKI infrastructure.
  • Security and Risk Assessment: They assess and mitigate the design and implementation of PKIs to reduce security risks.
  • Stay Current: They keep up-to-date with the latest PKI technologies, industry trends, and potential threats.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong understanding of PKI principles and technologies .
  • Experience with certificate authorities (CAs) and registration authorities (RAs) .
  • Knowledge of security protocols and standards (e.g., TLS/SSL, S/MIME) .
  • Familiarity with Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) and key management systems .
